Let’s not laugh this one off like McCain’s staff is trying to:
During his run for Senate back in 1986, John McCain told a real doozy of a joke, here it is:
Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, `Where is that marvelous ape?’
This is for real. McCain’s people are responding to people’s criticism of this joke and just making it worse for their candidate. This is their response, honest:
This kind of stuff is an example of McCain being McCain.
They might have well responded this way,
Silly Johnny’s just joking around. Oh, that crazy presidential candidate of ours!
And this man wants to be leader of the free world?
