Bill Moyers wants you to know the the war in Iraq is about oil. Here is an expose co-written by Moyers and Michael Winship from the Smirking Chimp laying out years of premeditation and posturing by the oil tycoons in the White House. Here’s a couple sentences from the essay:
“After a long exile, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP are back in Iraq. And on the wings of no-bid contracts – that’s right, sweetheart deals like those given Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater. The kind of deals you get only if you have friends in high places. And these war profiteers have friends in very high places.”
All this should not be any surprise to us. There are some of us who knew all along that Iraq was always about oil. 5 years later, big media is finally catching up with the rest of us, and evidence straight out of the White House is beginning to stack up. It’s satisfying to read essays like this one.
Lately, the White House has been reporting success in Iraq due to increased surge levels, and now comes news that the fruit of that success is now ripe and ready to pluck: no-bid contracts for big oil.
It is good news that even after a half a decade of deceit, the truth is now coming to the forefront with essays like this. America is now paying attention.
